Purpose: The purpose of this study was to describe the birth experience of primipara women who transitioned from labor induction to cesarean sections.
Methods: A qualitative method was utilized. Five primipara women who transitioned from labor induction t cesarean section were interviewed individually. The data were analyzed following the five steps of Downe-Wambolt.
Results: Four themes emerged as follows: (1) experienced physical discomfort due to delayed delivery, (2) a sudden change in delivery methods which makes me feel anxious, (3) more negative emotions than joy of childbirth, and (4) To blame the cesarean section for the health problems of postpartum mothers and child.
Conclusion: The findings contributed to understanding the birth experience of primipara women who transitioned from labor induction to cesarean sections. Healthcare professionals could provide tailored interventions to alleviate their physical symptoms and informational support to decrease their emotional difficulties caused by physical and cultural misunderstanding of the causes of transition from labor induction to cesarean sections.
